New Year's Day Fly-In 2008

Well, the fly-in didn't take place on New Years Day. The weather was horrible. However, it did take place on Sunday, January 6.
I arrived around 1 PM. Some of our braver members were there mid-morning to begin their flying.
The weather was beautiful if not just a bit chilly. The snow was soft and fluffy early in the day making flying a little difficult. By early afternoon it had firmed up and made takeoffs and landings much easier.
By the time I arrived, members had come and gone. It was reported that there was a steady turnover of fliers throughout the day.
Bobby O and Rene Soucy provided the cooking.
Dave Lampron has been plowing our road throughout the winter and we really appreciate that. We would have had a hard time getting to the field without Dave's help.
By all reports, a good time was had by all and it was a great success.
Thanks for the effort on the part of all our members who help make this a good day.

Ed Kopec with the help of Shawn Denehy has been running an after-school program for the South Hadley Middle School for the past three years. This program teaches the basics of model building to these youngsters.
The program is supported by AMA through a "YES" grant in the amount of $500.
This program gives out club great community exposure and helps promote healthy activities for youngsters.
We want to thank Ed and Shawn and all who help with this valuable program.

NEW PARK FLYER PROGRAM

Electric powered airplanes are "the thing" today. From the original "foamies" that refused to fly, electric powered airplanes have progressed to fully aerobatic and competition quality aircraft. Many who are new to the hobby have migrated to these planes. However, many don't seem to see the need for regulating this part of the hobby. Radio interference is becoming more of a problem with the sudden influx of these planes into the hobby.
AMA has announced a new "Park Flyer Program" to address this growing sector of our hobby. Information can be found in the January issue of Model Aviation beginning on Page 84 …… It can also be found on the AMA website by typing in "Park Flyer" in the search engine.
